Leila De Floriani
Leila De Floriani is a professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences with an appointment in UMIACS.
She also served as a professor of computer science at the University of Genova and was the founder of its Geometry and Graphics group. De Floriani was also the director of the doctorate program in computer science at the University of Genova.
Her research focuses on geometric modeling for scientific visualization, terrain modeling and computer graphics, and in topological data analysis.
De Floriani has written more than 280 publications in the fields of computer graphics, visualization, geometric modeling, shape and image analysis, and geographic data processing, which have appeared in major international journals and conferences.
She has been a principal investigator on several research grants from the National Science Foundation. De Floriani has also received several research grants from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), and the European community. She has been the national coordinator of several projects funded by MIUR. De Floriani has also been involved in the Research Training Network MINGLE (Multiresolution in Geometric Modeling) and in the EU Network of Excellence AIM@SHAPE.
She is the editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. She is an associate editor of Graphical Models and of ACM Transactions on Spatial Algorithms and Systems, and a member of the editorial board of GeoInformatica. De Floriani has been an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, and a member of the editorial board of Computer Aided Design and of the International Journal of Geographic Information Science.
She has served on more than 150 program committees of all major international conferences in the areas of geometric and shape modeling, computer graphics, visualization, and geographic data processing, and has coordinated both national and international research projects in these areas. De Floriani is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of the International Association for Patten Recognition (IAPR), a Member of the ACM and of the Eurographics Association.
